Hommage à Telemann

The year 2017 was celebrated worldwide as a „Telemann Year“, seeing 250 years to the composer’s passing. Alon Sariel and his ensemble Concerto Foscari pay a unique tribute to the German composer. Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767) was one of the most prolific composers of the world’s history, his oeuvre comprises more than 3.000 pieces, including all existing genres of his time. A multi instrumentalist himself, among the instruments he is known to have played are flute, oboe, chalumeau, viola da gamba, double bass, and bass trombone.

Featuring special guest Elisabeth Champollion on the recorder, the ensemble presents a plate of Telemann’s most virtuosic instrumental works. The famous French suite for recorder and strings in A minor next to a dazzling Italian violin concerto adapted by Sariel for the mandolin, the popular suite „La Bizarre“ next to works by Telemann’s contemporaries Johann Gottlieb Graun and Christoph Graupner.
